I just realized this private forum could be a good place to organize tea swaps, online tastings, and the like. It seems like I always read in the upper echelon of tea blogs about how they are sending each other these awesome samples, and I think it's time we stepped up to the plate. Not only are swaps and tastings a lot of fun, but I think it gives our various reviews more meaning and purpose when someone else can compare notes, instead of just observing from afar.
It's probably unfeasible to do a tasting with *everyone* in the private forum, at least as long as the teas are coming from our own private stashes, but maybe we could do a lottery or a rotation or something.
I know I have a few teas I wouldn't mind sending out samples of, so if anyone is interested just let me know.

Great idea, but can you deliver it to my TEAcave atop Mt Fuji?
Perhaps each sampling would be "optional" so members here could choose whether of not to participate when another member announces a particular sampling.
LOL, Salsero is the king of samples, Mary. How many samples is he up to these days?

Yeah, I mean each person sending samples can do what they want since it's their stuff, but I was thinking the ideal system would be to have a random lottery among people who say they're interested, with some way of ensuring that the losers aren't always left out, due to the nature of randomness.

Yeah, I've been mulling over doing another Second Best mailing, but everybody seems to be awash in tea samples lately - from Hobbes and Lochan, mostly.
I have a lot of a Spr 2007 Mao Feng Premium Yunnan Green that I have been enjoying lately and would like to share around. Scott's smallest order was 250 gr. It's not a show-stopping tea, but it's interesting because it's made from the Assamica varietal, has pretty much whole baby leaves, and has a flavor profile a little different from other greens. I've been brewing it 3.75 gr to 6 oz water, 1m, 1m, 2m, 4m, 10m, and keeping the temperature well below 180F, sometimes as cool as 150F. The first infusion is grassy and not very interesting but the second, third and even fourth infusions are pretty nice. My dilemma is that I had to buy 250 gr of this tea (for cheap, by the way, $12), I only get around to it once every 2 or 3 days, and I am waiting for a TeaSpring order with a ton of additional greens. Realistically, this tea will be too old to drink before I get halfway into the bag.
If anyone would like some of this green, PM me your address. (Scruff, since I didn't murder you family, I imagine you may trust me with your campus address. After all, roommates are a pain anyway; they'd never be missed.) (EO, if you want some, I assume you are still at the same address as last year.) (Andy, if you're down for it, I'll just have yours delivered to the hospital.)
I also have several smallish amounts (50g - 100g) of some Harney and TeaGschwendner Indian or Ceylon estates and blends that are getting pretty old and I rarely get around to drinking. They are guaranteed to provide caffeine, but none of them are favorites. Anyone interested, PM me with your address.
And, if I can get my act together, maybe later in the fall I will get together a full-scale Second Best Teahouse mailing to our greatly expanded coterie of teaheads.
