Brewing in a Glass

by Qoppa » Feb 5th, '11, 12:35

I was reading through the Life in a Teacup blog, and of course noticed that the author is fond of brewing tea in a glass. That sounds like a great idea as it's far more convenient than hauling out my big tea pot, though it leaves me wondering: wouldn't the tea over steep by doing this? It seems the author doesn't strain the leaves ever, so by the time you finish your cup, your tea will have steeped for a good couple of minutes - more than what most resources recommend for green tea. Am I missing something, or do Chinese green teas actually like being steeped this long?

Actually, on a similar note, wouldn't you have the same problem with travel mugs which let you brew in the mug. After a few hours, your tea would be way over steeped, and I can't imagine it tasting very good.

Perhaps I should have put this post in teaware...

Qoppa, try a TC search "grandpa style" - that's what many call it and there have been lots of postings about this brewing style.
any other details i am sure can be answered for you by TC members.
