Re: Your First Chawan
First and only chawan from a small teeny shop along either byodo-in omote sando or agata dori in Uji. I think it was second hand (the crackles were lightly stained already, and the old lady let me have it for just 10 USD or so
)

Well said, Seeker. Great lookin' chawan, too.Seeker wrote:Wonderful 1st children everyone, wonderful.

Re: Your First Chawan
Here's a something I'm very curious about. Would any of you ever part with your first Chawan even though you might not use it much anymore?
I never would. I'm very sentimental about such things.

I couldn't either. All my teaware have sentimental value; even those with collector value would never be sold because each holds special meaning.IPT wrote:Here's a something I'm very curious about. Would any of you ever part with your first Chawan even though you might not use it much anymore?

I have actually been considering this question as of late. I would rather it was used than seeing it sit idly in an obscure place, pretty much hidden from view. If it was one I had used a lot, maybe, but it has barely been used, not enough to build any attachment.
Still thinking.

I'll be glad to take it off your hands. I use all mine.Chip wrote:I would rather it was used than seeing it sit idly in an obscure place, pretty much hidden from view. If it was one I had used a lot, maybe, but it has barely been used, not enough to build any attachment.

The only teaware I'm iffy about keeping forever are ones I've picked up for about $5 here and there along the way, but I figure those are just my "use and don't worry about breaking" pieces. I can recognize what I liked about them and why I bought them (the price), but I don't feel any kind of attachment to them.
As for everything else, I am in love, and will keep them forever. I try to use all of my teaware and cycle through them depending on what tea I feel like drinking that day. I miss all the teaware I left back in the States at my parents' house. This has been a very long separation.

I can relate. I still have a number of old tetsubin, some old puer and dark teas, and some old zisha teapots in the States. Some day, if I ever go back, I'll need to bring them with me.karmaplace wrote:I miss all the teaware I left back in the States at my parents' house. This has been a very long separation.

Re: Your First Chawan
I left a tetsubin set (pot, cups, and coasters), a gaiwan set I got off Victoria, three zisha teapots, a bee house teapot (my first teapot I got from my mother), a bunch of teeny celadon cups, some pink cups that match my kyusu, and an origami-pattern mug set.IPT wrote:I can relate. I somehow managed to fit all my tea, chawan (plural), a kyusu, and all my one-of-a-kind pieces in the suitcase though. I'll be taking a suitcase full of gifts for people when I go to visit, so I'll have room to bring all my stuff back with me.
