"White tatol back bamboo" chashaku from Horaido?

by fire_snake » Feb 6th, '11, 21:12

What is a "White tatol back bamboo" chashaku from Horaido? And how does it compare to the rest? Is there a point to more joints? I thought these were all the same.

Opinions?

Thanks,

My guess, until proven otherwise, is that "tatol" is a typo. It doesn't appear to mean anything in English, and it's definitely not a Japanese word.

Whatever it is, it doesn't seem worth $120+...

Katsuragi was recently selling some neat Monk's chashakus on eBay...

Chashakus are, by far, the most expensive piece of matcha-ware, at least relative the size/perceived importance in our eyes. We think of it as some bamboo scoop - a $5 deal. Yet, chashakus routinely sell for hundreds of dollars.

Chasen, on the other hand, is cheap stuff, probably because it's seen as a bit of a consumable -- it wears out.
