Wrappers

by the_skua » Feb 6th, '11, 11:45

Does anyone do anything creative with the wrappers from their finished pu cakes? I've got a few piling up and really enjoy them, but would like to do something fun with them where I can see them. I thought about gluing them to tea canisters like paper mache.

I for awhile started to fold them up and put them inside plastic sleeves thinking it could be a bit of a book on the puerh cakes I've had, I was also inserting the inner tickets into sleeves also.

I keep the tickets, but the wrapper is usually too beat up to do anything with.

I have had this idea for a while now to make a lamp, which base would be an Hagi-vase, and the lampshade would be made with puerh wrappers.

I even bought a nice vase in Hagi for this... but never had the courage to dig a hole in it for the wire... But I'll definitively try to make a lampshade one day with some wrappers. I have looked it up on the net, it doesn't look difficult at all.

I'm in the same boat. I've thought of scrapbooking a tea table book.

I thought of this, too, but the jars and canisters I own I bought because I like their decoration already as-is. Also, wrappers are big and my jars are relatively small. Lastly, not all of these jars hold pu'er, and it doesn't seem "right" to cover my jars that hold oolong with pu'er labels. :)

So, I too am curious about what anyone else is doing with their wrappers/tickets or thinking of doing with them.

They have lamp innards (?) you can buy that don't require you to put a hole in the vase. It would mount in the vase and the wires would come out at the top of the base. They were designed just for this situation.

I have seen some but I failed to see devices that are actually good looking in the end. I will have another look though.

granted, the cord will hang down, but as long as it's in the back, it shouldn't look too bad. The lamp shade should hide the lamp hardware too. You could always stick the cord to the back side of the vase with some of that stick-um stuff people use to hang posters on the wall. It'd be easily removable and wouldn't leave a stain.

I'll go look that up tomorrow. Thanks a lot IPT. I also have a nice hand-painted chinese vase I'd like to turn into a lamp. I'll see what I can do for this one too.

You're more than welcome. I hope it works out. I'd love to see photos if you do it. I picked up a couple of Chinese vases when I was in Jingdezhen and drilled them to make them lamps. They weren't expensive, so I didn't mind doing it, but they add a nice flavor to the room.

I've made little paper frogs out of then after gluing them to stiffer paper. But because I buy mainly 100g cakes they are small and my dog will eat them if I leave them out on the table i don;t have any currently.

Speaking of wrappers does anyone here know the factory/maker of the logo that is an elephant from the back view? Its the only Raw and "cooked" Pu'erh carried by the tea/apothecary shop I go to in my area.
