by pgho » Mar 30th, '11, 13:59

With the ending of the pre-Ching Ming period in a few days time, is there any news how this year harvest coming along? Did remembered last year harvest was late, due to frost if I am not mistaken.

Which area harvest be better this year; Shi Feng, Longjing village, Mei Jia Wu?

Here is some information I've collected -
The past winter was cold, and early March was cold, which are both good for growth of Xi Hu Long Jing. Harvest on #43 cultivar (which is one of the most popular cultivars of Long Jing, along with the Jiu Keng cultivar) has been going on for a few days. Harvest of Jiu King cultivar has barely started yet, and large production will be made in future week.

About Da Fo Long Jing - everything else was good and this year is otherwise supposed to be a good year, except that there was a significant frost on March 27. It's hard to estimate now what the loss will be but it definitely killed a lot of tea buds. Harvest on #43 cultivar had started before the frost. I see some vendors in China are already carrying the new harvest. So probably the frost will not affect price of early harvest very much, unless the frost was so severe and impacts the market in general. Since I am not an economic expert, all price guestimations are subjective :D

Long Jing village is in Shi Feng Mountain, and Mei Jia Wu is in the region too and is bicycle distance away from Long Jing. So it's really hard to compare their harvest quality.
