yuuki's Karigane Genmaicha was fantastic on my order oct 09, the stems were super thin and fine
but the new batch I got my last order in april 10 no longer had the super fine stems, while still very good, not nearly at it's previous level
For me the old batch was stellar for blending because it was good at adding a sweet layer to the tea, new batch not so much

Thank you for your recommendation. I placed an order here and am really looking forward to trying their Genmaicha.churng wrote:yuuki's Karigane Genmaicha was fantastic on my order oct 09, the stems were super thin and fine

Re: Best Genmaicha?
Just wanted to revive this thread and update that I tried Yuuki's Karigane Genmaicha (thank you again for the recommendation, churng) and it was fabulous...liked it better than Maeda-an's Genmaicha, which is also quite good.
Would love to see if anyone has other recommendations for their favorite, as I love to try genmaicha from new (to me) companies from time-to-time.
Genmaicha lovers...where are you?

I can recommend you genmaicha "hanafubuki" from Maiko. I try a coupe of genmaicha teas but hanafubuki is still my favourite mix
And with 200g pack for 10 dollars it is good tea for my wallet too. And these days is also available its shincha version - genmaicha "otafuku".

Re: Best Genmaicha?
Ippodo's genmaicha is my favorite. If you order some of their excellent gyo, sencha or matcha, make sure to include a bag of genmaicha (and hojicha).

My fave is my own home made! Sometimes I have it with tea, and sometimes sans tea.

Chip, I've been tempted to try that myself. I got some Ito En sencha as a gift, and it's rather dull. The addition of toasted rice might make it more enjoyable.Chip wrote:My fave is my own home made! Sometimes I have it with tea, and sometimes sans tea.

Exactly ... no point wasting the good stuff!NOESIS wrote:Chip, I've been tempted to try that myself. I got some Ito En sencha as a gift, and it's rather dull. I have done pan firing the rice and also used a hot air popcorn popper. The pan gave more toasty taste, but the popper was a lot easier.
However, after using the popper for many loads, when I went upstairs, there was rice dust haze/smoke everywhere!

I also do mugicha and any grainy kind of thing I can think of. Great beverages!

Very good genmaicha, also my favorite, and you really cant beat the price

Re: Best Genmaicha?
Perhaps this is slightly off topic, but has anyone tried the Shiawase Cha from Maiko? It looks rather delicious and seems like it might be a kissing cousin of genmaicha.
It looks like it might make me pretty happy!

Love Genmaicha. My mother used to make it when I was a little girl.
I must have her do this again one day and show me her technique!
