Shiboridashi 絞り出す

by chado.my.teaway » Aug 2nd, '11, 17:22

Who of you use Shiboridashi(絞り出す)? I wonder if these people are. When I started my Chadō I use Shiboridashi coz thats was simply. Using gaiwan was more difficult. But maybe someone love this type vessel.

We recently had a special event in which a potter sold a bunch of teaware (you can find the thread and pictures over on this thread), and shiboridashi were included.

I picked up one, and I absolutely love it for brewing sencha! And I think a lot of other people here own one as well...

BTW, in Japanese, shiboridashi is spelled either 絞り出し or 搾り出し, the important part being し (shi) and not す(su). The use of す is the verbal form, and し is the 'verb stem' that gets used as a noun form... sort of like how はなす (hanasu) means to talk, and はなし (hanashi) means a story.

I bought a shiboridashi from O-Cha as part of a gyokuro set. I love using it for that purpose and I'm really taken by the way that such a simple construction is so effective.

I bought a shiboridashi set by Petr Novak very recently.
I just love it. More convenient & aesthetic than a white porcelain gaiwan, it pours beautiful. I use it to brew sencha, puerh...
