Yixing yellow teapot with handle at the side ?

by In search of truth » Aug 26th, '11, 11:57

I've recently purchased a Yellow clay Yixing teapot and the handle is at the side, not directly opposite the spout.

Is this very unusual or just a novelyt ?

Quite a few "kyusu-style", side-handled teapots were made at a certain point for export to Japan, and they are not so rare. If you hunt around enough on the Interwebs, you'll find more. I think Dragon Tea House stocks a few.

The handle is a proper pulled handle rather than a straight 'saucepan' type.
