Re: Sharing your experience with Shouzhen pots

IMO, a newly made Yixing pot needs to be aged in order to maximise its earthy capabilities because it has excessive fire resulting from the production process (Fire) which needs to be balanced out. Alternatively using the pot over time is the normal method most tea drinkers follow.

But what I was referring to was enabling the Yixing teapot attain its maximum potential from an energetic perspective. In this instance we would either store the pot in a cool, dry place (more Yin) in order to increase its earthy character while at the same time lessening the fire component (system that is probably not very practical for most people).

Daoism acknowledges the connection between Earth (Yin), Humanity (Yin & Yang) and Heaven (Yang). The Daoist method calls for channeling and storing the the Earth element aspect of Qi of specific energies of the natural order into the pot: old boulders, planets (Saturn and Earth), stars and constellations (the Big Dipper). This approach would be ideally carried out during autumn (season corresponding to the Earth element according to the Wu Xing).
