How to identify firing-type in Yixing pots
I have a lovely new duanni pot, which I just posted in the show off, but I have no idea if it is low-, med-, or high-fired. The vendor was clueless. How can I tell? What about other Yixing clays?

The best way to tell is by the sound the pot makes when you lift the lid up < 1cm, and let it fall back into place. It's a comparative thing between different pots, but clay type and wall thickness also plays into it. In short, experience.

In general, yes, but clay with larger particle size will always sound duller than fine particle clay of equal firing levels.needaTEAcher wrote:A higher pitch for higher fire and lower for lower?
