I am with TingJunkie on this one.tingjunkie wrote:Depends on how you define "most" and "crap." I'd agree that a majority of inexpensive modern Yixing available to westerners is junk, but I have many pots in my collection which I paid less than $30 and are excellent performers. I have $10 pots which can preserve all the subtle nuances and compliment a perfectly aged 30 year old puerh. Many were lucky finds of course, but they're out there if you look hard enough.Bob_McBob wrote:Sub-$100, most stuff available to Westerners tends to be crap
Disagree completely.bagua7 wrote:Modern Yixing sucks, unfortunately.
An early tuition pot turned out to be much better than I had figured. Since the clay did not "ring like a bell" I had planned to sell it. Turns out it holds +- 90ml, has a 3-4 sec pour, a bit heavy and is nice and flat. Great for pu.
It seems people get so hung up on the pots/material and not the technique and experience that comes with time. That said I am looking forward to the day where I can detect these subtle nuances in blind tasting.
Off topic, but the single item that has made the biggest difference in my brewing is a tetsubin. It holds heat better than any other kettle I have. That said my main teas are pu and medium-heavy oolongs.
