You can get a lead test stick from your local hardware store (Lowe's, Home Depot, etc) if lead in the glaze is your concern. I used one to test a set and as it turns out the outside design was lead based, but not the internal glaze.

The cup is leadglazed and nowadays it would not be adviseable to drink from.

However,the occasional cup of tea should be o.k.

Nice cup by the way,circa 1820 London shaped handle and probably Staffordshire rather than Sunderland.
