Boiling water in a ceramic kettle

by el gringo » Jan 25th, '12, 03:15

This might sound like a stupid question but I've just purchased a 2 lt cermaic kettle by Lin's and I've never boiled water using a stovetop kettle before.

When you're heating the water on the stove do you leave the lid off the kettle?

No, I never do like that. I wonder what can be a reason?

Unless your water is filled with chemicals you want to boil out (though that would be one long boil), I don't see much reason to leave the lid off

You get yours from essence of tea?

Thanks both. There was just this nagging feeling that I had read somewhere in the past that you had to leave the lid off but I can't remember where I read this and whether I even read it about ceramic kettles!

@teaisme - Yes I go this one from EoT. Its a second-hand one that they used to use in their teashop.

@el gringo: to be correct after I reach boiling temperature I take a lid off (half) to keep a water hot but not so much boiling ( for multiply brewing sessions). But my knowledge and experience is very limited.

Matt from http://mattchasblog.blogspot.com/ started very interesting and full of knowledge series about stoves, kettles and charcoal.
