Thanks for the note.

Yeah -- people always think we're making this up. But, after searching the FedEx site for quite some time, i found PROOF!

Now that everyone knows that we really get charged this extra fee, I expect some really nice Christmas presents.

Hopefully,

Chris

I live in a rural area. In fact, if you look at my address, it's not in most databases because it's new. In fact, it's such a pain in the butt for most companies that I have to have things shipped to my PO Box. (I've actually had order programs question my address).

The Fed-Ex people found me as did the UPS, but for the sake of making sure I GET my tea, I have it shipped priority mail.

I've had two complaints about Adagio's handling priority mail. First, they tack on extra for it. Second, they can't track it (although the USPS has delivery confirmation for 40 cents more). I'm sort of confused by this. All my other mail order places don't charge extra for priority mail -- they charge what they charge or they charge according to rates.

So, yeah, I live way the heck away from everything, but I'm a 1/2 hour from FED-Ex, UPS and the airport. At the same time, I could have a grizzly or a moose in my front yard. :!:

Priority mail is more expensive to ship with. The service does not provide shipping, but delivery confirmation, and most of the time the package arrives before anyone needs to track it.

As for the rural surcharges, we pick up the extra charge from FedEx. In order to make up for it, we do unfortunately have to pass it along to our customers who do live in rural zip codes. Other companies average this into their normal rates. So, rural surcharges aside, our shipping prices are reasonable. The link posted eons ago by Chris is outdated, but I do have a PDF of the current zip codes listed as rural.

Just going to add my two cents, offer a little perspective.

I get customer complaints about a similar kind of thing all the time. They don't want to have to use the internet to buy something, they want my store to carry it, and they don't want to have to drive to another store, either, they want it all under one roof, which, with our current space-time continuim isn't possible.

I think we live in an extraordinary time. Never before have we had so much available to us. We can have practically anything shipped to our door. I just got a package from Japan that only took 2 1/2 days! But no, its not free. Now, Adagio can either charge the extra shipping, or they can inflate their prices in general to cover the overhead, but either way, they gots to get paid. Cos if they dont, they go out of business and no one gets their yummy tea.

If it's that much of a problem, you could always move to Japan.

What's the big deal about saying "rural" instead of "designated area?" At any rate, I fail to see how this is Adagio's problem, they're just covering their costs. If being in a "designated area" bothers you, take it up with FedEx.

Actually, I think it is more of a Fed Ex problem than anything. The last two shipments from Adagio to me have been screwed up by Fed Ex, first by saying that no one was at home to receive, when someone was, and just today when they said they had the wrong address on the package when it was correct. Still waiting on that package to arrive today, after talking with the Fed Ex people.

I really love the Adagio products, but who they use for a shipper really sucks sometimes!

Fed Ex sux...but I am too kind.

I am not exagerating when I say that 9 out of the last 10 shipments have been screwed up by Fed Ex one way or another. Most times they cannot find my house where I have lived and received shipments for 20 years.

Each "delivery" has its own horror story...one time, I placed 2 orders, one was from Upton and one was from Japan. The order from Japan reached me via USPS in 4 days and the one from a couple hundred miles away too 12 days. There is just no justification for that kind of lousy service.

I remember when FE was synonomous with quality and customer care.

That is weird indeed. UPS has been great, same driver for many years and never a complaint. USPS, has been somewhere in between, not perfect, but much better than FE.

I ditto scruff on this one. But the only Fedex I get is from Adagio, and they also do very well.
