A friend of mine who lives in England offered to mail me tea.
I like all kinds of tea and I am not an expert, so I thought I would ask for recommendations of what to ask for.
I would like to use the opportunity to get something uniquely British/UKish or at least something I can't easily get in the US.
Is there a particularly good brand of early grey in the UK that isn't easily available elsewhere?
Any recommendations greatly appreciated

Hi, I'm in the UK and I love English/Irish blends.
If your friends live either in Norwich or Southsea there a couple of good vendors I can recommend, they are mainly wholesalers that supply tea rooms (they have websites but I can't recommend buying online as I'm not sure their customer service is reliable, also they don't always give enough information about their teas to know exactly what you are buying). If I lived in one of those towns myself I'd probably visit every other day...
The one in Norwich do some interesting Earl Grey blends:
Earl Grey Green: Pure green China tea and bergamot
Earl's Passion: Early Grey with a twist!
Earl Grey Fumé: China black and green, Bergamot and a hint of lapsang
Blue Lady Earl Grey: Wonderfully aromatic, soft and fruity and floral infusion. (just earl grey with added cornflowers, just pretty but same taste)
Blue Lady Grapefruit: Earl Grey with a most refreshing zing of grapefruit.
Lady in waiting Earl Grey: Earl grey with added orange oil and zest, double citrus!
If your friend is offering to buy some tea in her local supermarket, in my opinion Yorkshire Tea by Taylors of Harrogate is the best you can find in a shop particularly Yorkshire Gold (bags and loose). It's a fairly strong classic English blend. Obviously it wouldn't be my first recommendation, but it's the only supermarket tea I would buy. I don't know if it's available in USA, probably not.

I'm in the UK and adore Earl Grey so I may be able to help you in your search.
Clipper sell a very nice Earl Grey tea which is strong on the bergamot front and is not for the faint hearted. They are stocked in most supermarkets and can be found all over the UK so it's easy to get hold of over here.
If your looking for something more specialist and your friend is willing to buy tea online then I recommend the following:
Canton Tea sell a great quality Earl Grey at a fair price. Very fresh.

Nothing But Tea (NBT) are also another good store that stock a nice Earl Grey. It's more for everyday use but still tasty non the less.

Tea Palace sell a wide variety of special Earl Grey with a variety of unique blends. The quality is also very good and a great treat.
