Tea Of The Month

by cegeland » Jan 9th, '08, 14:30

Hello.
My wife was kind enough to enroll me in the Adagio Tea Of The Month as a Christmas present and being a little excited I can't wait to get my tea and so I was wondering if anyone knew approximately when the teas are shipped or how long it typically takes to be delivered?
Thanks,

The tea-of-the-month clubs are a rolling sendout (i just made up that phrase) at Adagio. Basically, we will ship you the next batch 60 days after your initial order. Shipping to Canada should take only a few days.

Thanks for the quick reply. I can't wait for my new teas to arrive.

I thought about joining this tea of the month club. I've noticed with a lot of clubs you have to choose a discipline (green, black, etc). I like how Dragonwater's is set up. It's like a Netflix queue. I think more tea companies should look into this -- you'd have the option of choosing all green if you only like green, but it'd give you more opportunity to explore new kinds of tea.

FWIW, I adore Adagios tea club. I'm not a big drinker of flavored teas, and I'm not experienced enough for greens, so their black club has been perfect for me. I don't have to worry about remembering to order (I have 3 young children) and I always have a nice selection sitting around. And I know I will at least like them as they're good quality and not blueberry favored.

I kind of like how Dragonwater's is, but I fear I would only order what I know and thus not expand my base enough.

Yeah, I mean, I am glad that such different things work for people, but it is just not varied enough for me. With Dragonwater, you can actually go through each tea and that's precisely what I did -- if it sounded good, I put it on my list, if not, I left it. I have like 20+ teas, some of which I've never heard of, and if I don't like them, oh well, you know? I think it's awesome. If Adagio set up one like that, I would definitely sign up. Dragonwater's is $10 a month, which is also great -- they don't charge you up front for the whole amount.

I really like the idea of Dragonwater's tea club. It's also great because you get a one month trial, and another prek they give you 5% off your orders and free sample with every order. I would really go for the Adagio tea of the month club but they don't give you samples, but they give you the 'regular' sizes tins which is a waste if you don't like the tea. If I had the money, I would definatly sign up for dragonwater's club.

That's actually a problem I have overall. Even Adagio's "sample tin" is too big. It may not be much money, but I'm still wasting tea when I don't like it. You can buy like 15 1/2 oz. samples from Dragonwater, if you like them, buy more, if not, there are only like 3 cups anyway.

The other thing that annoys me about Adagio's website is that you have to write reviews when there are items in your cart to get a discount. I didn't notice this the first time. I wrote reviews for like 10 teas, and got no return because I hadn't put stuff in my cart yet.

I see this sample size problem with a lot of companies, though. Why would I want to buy a minimum of 4 oz. when I haven't even tried the tea?

In the end, though Adagio's not my favorite to buy from, they make a damn good grapefruit oolong, and that gets massive respect from me.

I think Mighty Leaf and Harney & Sons either have little or no sample sizes at all. But, yeah, so far Adagio is the nicest to order from.
