Antioxidants don't do a body good.

by MEversbergII » Dec 3rd, '13, 11:32

One of the big things tea was in about was antioxidants. For a while, it was folk knowledge that AO's were fantastic, since they prevented tissue damage / aging by arresting free radicals.

We know now that is bunk. By and large, I see fewer and fewer tea retailers discuss the subject, which is good. However, random other foods still seem to push it; guessing it costs too much to change the packaging. Some tea retailers still do.

Anyways, some reading, from lighter to heavier, in case someone isn't aware or wants some resources to push towards other they know are not up-to-date.

There was a fair amount of discussion about this at World Tea Expo this year. I attended one seminar for small tea business owners on labeling and food claims in the U.S., as regulated by the F.D.A. It was noted not to make health claims around any beneficial attributes of antioxidants in tea. It was a worthy class. Thanks for the links. I'm going to pull up more of the scientific journal lit. on this and take a look.

Blessings!

Antioxidants can do good for your body, but they don't discriminate--they protect the cancer cells as well as the healthy cells. And too much of them can be so helpful to your body recovering from a workout that the workout doesn't trigger the changes in your muscles that lead to greater strength.

I like my tea, I drink my tea, I enjoy my tea.

The oxidants and antioxidants can sort themselves out.

disequilibrium and constant flux between oxidized and reduced states keep us alive

inside your cells, the cytoplasm is reducing in condition, and yet outside the cells, the environment is oxidizing. imbalance in redox conditions can lead to health conditions.

Some people in the strenght world (I'm a strong man trainee) advice against eating too many antioxidants because it can actually decrease strenght gain.
Well, I just eat and drink what I like and enjoy in moderation.

I also drink tea just because I love the taste of tea, nothing less, nothing more.
