Hi! New tea cups?

Hi all!

Just signed up, but I've been following everyone's beautiful tea collections for a while now. *drool* My teaware is a pretty haphazard assortment, but I wanted to start adding a few nicer pieces to the pile.

I'm looking for thin porcelain tea cups where you can see the color of the tea through the porcelain. I saw a few examples here where green tea looks green through the cup. Is that how it really looks or is that camera magic?

I don't think I can post links, but I've been eyeing the "Fish Blue White Translucent" tea cup from Dragon Tea House (Ebay)

and the "Song Dynasty Fish Teacup" from Pure Puer Tea.


Do those seem like good options or are there better recommendations? Fish artwork not required, even a simple plain white cup would be lovely.

I picked up a couple of the thinnest I can imagine, Japanese Imari cups. Can't really see the color of the tea through them. You can get a hint of it I suppose, you can see if it's dark or light. Maybe they make thinner cups than that but I can't imagine so. If you're in the States you might find a better price for those cups from a domestic vendor. I don't know what the price on those from DTH actually is, I just feel like I've seen those cups on a lot of vendors sites and DTH can be a bit pricey once they factor in the "free" shipping costs into the price.

thinnest cups are usually chao zhou gongfu type of cups..

and DTH cups are................... rather expensive for the price of such things......

Wow, thanks for all the advice everyone. Took me a while to look around for all the options suggested.

I picked up a couple of the thinnest I can imagine, Japanese Imari cups.

I know next to nothing about Japanese teaware, but I did find some great looking cups at "Everyone's Tea." Not sure if that's what you meant, but I'm thinking about picking up a set of porcelain sencha or waba-iki sencha cups.

Just the kind of advice I was looking for. When I see the online shops and the local shops, it's hard to distinguish if there's something special about the more expensive online items. I did end up going with a "singing" tea cup from Tea-Masters at a more reasonable price.

Also found what I thought was a "Golden Dragon" teacup set at a local shop...

Then my relatives told me that it's a "Golden Shrimp" and not a dragon.

At least the tea (Alishan Spring oolong) was delicious!

Yeah, I've gotten a lot of really nice stuff from Dragon Tea House, but I've never paid them more than $5 for a cup

I actually like them alot. I have realized that i enjoy porcelain and these "yunomi" hold my favorite amount of liquid (4-5 oz). A win in my book!
