Imen's tea seems to be taking the country by storm. Corax posted a review last night of 2 (again, neither in our tasting!)

I think I may have already gotten mine– I got a notice that I have a package waiting for me in the mail room, and I'm not expecting anything else. I don't think I'll get a chance to get to the mail room today, but I'll check on Monday.

Thanks again Salsero!

I got a package in the mail today...

At first I was all, "Did I order anything from Tea Habitat? No...sounds familiar...where do I...IMEN! SALSERO! DAN CONG!!!" Then I tore into my package with gleeful abandon.

Ze tea...she looks beautiful.

I got the tea in the mail today in a nice "Clear Glass Teapot" box. I had no idea what it was. Great looking samples. Now to bust out the Gaiwan!

Those boxes were the perfect size for tea shippage. I'm going to see if I can track down something similar.

Ditto and waiting for the box to get to room temp. It is a cold raw wet day here.

...it is a good idea for the seperate thread for the tasting, Mary!!! We should do an administrative type thread each month and the tasting thread. Very good idea!
blah blah blah SENCHA blah blah blah!!!

If we're going to continue the admin/tasting notes split, should a mod delete the admin thread after its no longer needed?

Hmmm...lol...dangerous with the delete key, Mary.

I would leave it for now for future participants to see example(s) of the process.

Just a thought.

I tend to be a data pack rat.

Brewing instructions

by Salsero » Feb 4th, '08, 18:58

It appears that Imen did not include the brewing instructions with her Dan Cong mailing. As a result I am copying them over from the sheet she sent me. Of course, since a few of you are mature adults  , it's your decision how closely to follow or disregard her suggestions.
  • Ao Fu Hou, Orange Flower Fragrance, 2007 (5-gram sample)
Yu Lan Xiang, Magnolia Fragrance, 2007 (10-gram sample)
Imen wrote:"To brew with gaiwan (100 ml) or clay pot, use 3 to 5 grams of leaves, boiling water, limit steep time between 20 sec to 1 minute each infusion, depending on strength you prefer. Rinse is not necessary.

To brew with ceramic or class cup (yes, good tea will taste good any way), use 1 gram of leaves for 150ml of boiling water, steep 3 to 5 minutes."
----------------------------------
  • 86 Vintage Dan Cong (4-gram sample)
Imen wrote:"To brew aged DC with gaiwan (100 ml) or clay pot, use 3 grams of leaves (use less aged leaves than young), quick rinse with boiling water (pour water in then out immediately), leave lid open and let it cool down to room temperature. Then brew normally.

However, I learn not to waste precious tea, so I always taste the rinse to see if it's drinkable before discarding"

Oops, looks like I got two samples of the 86 vintage and zero of one of the others. S'cool though, especially if the 86 ends up being rocking good.

Sorry, Sky. It's just like all the other expensive drugs: the first one is free! Mwwaahaha. How did you finally brew it?
