Tea in Drawers?

My tea collection has grown to the point where it's hard to keep it organized. Right now, it's all in the original pouches inside a wicker basket in a cabinet.

I'm playing with the idea of doing something like this, but I'm afraid the tea will go stale if it's left in drawers.

Any thoughts?

While that does look pretty, tea in drawers will almost certainly go stale since that's a lot of exposure to air flow. Not to mention you'd have to have a LOT of an individual tea to make a drawer a useful sized storage container...

Good idea, bad airflow. I would put them in containers and put them in drawers. Im working on this myself. I have boxes (small ones) all over my house with little samples or smaller bags of tea. I was thinking about getting one of those rubbermaid rolling shelves to organize them in. One drawer for Oolongs, one for green tea, one for everything else!

I'd love to see pictures of other people's setups.

Right now, I have some 20-30 different teas. I don't have enough space in my cabinet to keep them all in canisters; a drawer system would let me make use of more vertical space, but I definitely can't have my tea going stale.... Containers in drawers might work if I found the right containers, but I also want the tea to be easy to access.

How cheap are you wanting to go? Im fugal because i have to be. If you want to be lavish with your storage I would look in the Puerh section of the forum and find a thread about pu-madors. Some of those are pretty nice.

I'm pretty frugal too, so I think those would be overkill.

I have a tea cabinet I put together (http://www.teachat.com/viewtopic.php?f=41&t=19471%20) and ideally I'd like all my tea to be neatly organized on one of the top shelves, with the other top shelf for displaying teaware. (The bottom shelves hold things that I don't care to display or that I don't use often).

Tea packages can be hidden in nice drawers and canisters while the tea stays well sealed.

For a long time I used mini cube organizers and accompanying tiny fabric drawers to sort my tea packages by type. I loved the fabric drawers because they were easy to pull completely out and rifle through as needed rather than having to bend to the level of the drawer.

I have most of my tea in thick resealable pouches w/ Kraft paper on the outside & foil on the inside. I write pertinent information on the paper: the tea that is inside, when it was harvested, etc.; sometimes even steeping suggestions. Whatever I keep those pouches in, the tea has been okay.

(I sell them, mentioned for the seventh time on teachat, forgive me, for 32 cents each.)

I have also been thinking about a tea drawer. But wont it work if you put the tea in zip lock bags? Then the tea will be air sealed by the bags and the drawer will keep it dark.
