Rain

by Space Samurai » Feb 6th, '08, 02:08

So my tax return came today. I didn't need any tea, I have more than enough teaware, so I used some of my extra funds to disfigure myself instead.

Its the hiragana fro ame, the Japanese word for Rain.

The year after my Dad died, I read the Hagakure.

If you don't know it, its an interesting book, full of parables, stories of other samurai, musings on bushido, extra little tidbits like be sure to burn incense in your helmet, so that after your enemy takes your head and removes you helmet, he is greeted with a whiff of pleasant aroma.

Any way, I read this one pasage, which uses rain as a metaphor for all the shit that can happen in life. The idea that life isn't fair, and that all you can do is cowboy up and deal, there's no use getting upset over it, helped me get through the first few years, and started me on the path to the rather budhist world view I have now.

Just wanted to share. :D

What a beautiful metaphor! Everyone could learn from that pearl of wisdom, really.

As for the 'disfigurement," I wouldn't mind having the name of your guy. He did excellent work with the line weight. It's very clean, yet refined. That great blend of simple and elegant...which is what you wanted, no?

Yeah, I think he did a great job. Took him less than ten minutes, too.

Thank you sir. Excellent timing for that piece of wisdom.

nice ink. :)

That quote was the one that really stuck with me when I read that book too. Then there was the Mythbuster's 'walk or run in the rain' episode to drive the point home.

Yes, running in the rain gets you more wet than walking.

Thanks, Space. :D

That episode really bugged me. When you walk, a large proportion of the rain that hits you hits your *HEAD* (as opposed to the front of your body if you run), yet they didn't take that into account. *raaarrrrggghhhh!!!*

Regardless, nice tat. :)
