What do you think of this taobao/alibaba pot?

by futurebird » Dec 27th, '14, 23:10

I don't put much faith in those websites for clay. But this looks pretty for a larger pot (which I need for guests.) If I got a pot like the one in the photo it would at least be something nice for my shelf if the clay is not good. It's nicely proportioned. Something I don't see often enough.

Could this be half-handmade and out of decent clay as advertised? I'm still on the fence and may go with one of the sellers I know better.

I've noticed many more small (under 150cc) teapots on these websites lately, they used to be hard to find. But, the quality is very poor. The clay looks poor and the workmanship is not pleasing.

I've also found this which I had to share because it's funny:

The smallest of them all!

Clay is OK, modern Yixing. Photos are crisp and clear, it looks that that aliexpress-based vendor is doing things the right way, but are you aware that it is a 280cc/mL pot?

Yeah, I need something for when I have a friend over. The little pots brew too slowly for 3 people.
