What kind of tea for a zini lixing teapot of 150 ml?

by ken1shi » Apr 2nd, '15, 17:07

I usually drink roasted tie guan yin and shou pu erh, ocassionally red tea, Just got a new yixing teapot of 150ml lixing shape(Pear) made from zini and dont know what tea to brew in it. Judging from the sound, its more on the high fired side. Small spout, but takes 15 seconds to pour, 18 with leaves. Any suggestions? I want to get out and discover a potential new favorite tea.

Just by the size alone, I'd look at using it for shou or red tea. Too expensive to fill it up with proper roasted oolong. Personally I wouldn't use a zini pot for gaoshan unless it was extraordinarily good clay.

Sounds like a good shou pot. If you can open it up and decrease pour speed maybe consider Phoenix Dan Cong?

It's an ok size for gaoshan, but unless it's spectacular purple clay, it's likely not a top choice. Gaoshan usually needs a gaiwan or high fired red clay with low porosity, in my opinion.

+1! I'd say pu erh (either aged or shu) or some dark roast tgy from which you want to remove some excessive charcoal...

You can always cut your losses and sell it to me cheap! Have you tried yancha yet? It's big for that, but I bet it might be a good fit.

lixing and Shui Ping are generally good for vast range of teas, so is Zini.
