Maybe a little un related but I didn't think that this question deserved it's own thread, maybe it has already been answered.

I'm looking to buy some matcha and sencha late april from O-Cha. I realized that that would make all the tea a year old. I know O-Cha says that after a year of cold storage it isn't that good. So should I hold off until fall to start drinking Japanese green tea? When the sencha and matcha will be ready from O-Cha. I think shincha is a little too grassy and astrigent for my taste which is why I am looking more at sencha.

Thank you.

O-Cha ' s Aoi, Yutaka Midori, Sae Midori, organic Kirishima are still bangin'! If shincha doesn't do it for you, then previous harvest is the way to go.

Nothing wrong with that year old tea at all, I don't think we've said anywhere it's not as good. Actually, some of it's better with age.

I was referring to this quote: "Under optimal conditions under refrigeration, an unopened bag of green tea will stay fresh for 6~12 months maximum."
Maybe that was in relation to more commercial green tea seeing how it is under that question...

That would be in reference in your refrigerator.

When we purchase it it's pulled out of cold storage by the grower and put through one last stage of processing, then freshly packaged. That can occur any time of the year.

Thank you for the clarification! I thought that might have been how it was meant. I did end up ordering both Shincha and Matcha from you and am very excited. Thank you for the help.
