What is this white line on the teapot?

by gunbuster363 » Jun 14th, '15, 03:01

I had been cleaning my teapot and I found a white line on my teapot suddenly. I don't remember seeing this line when it was new, otherwise I would have noticed it.

Is this because I brew green tea with this teapot everyday, and when I am pouring the green tea, some tea slide down and cause chemistry reduction on the teapot?

If you apply baking soda with the tip of your wet finger to the area of the spout, if it is tea, it will come off easily when rubbing your finger over the area. If it doesn't come out, it is probably something in the clay, but I think it should come out.

Yes, absolutely normal. When a pot drips slightly this will form at exactly that place. I would keep it as it is, and not try to clean it off with chemicals. It just reflects the character of this particular pot.

I might, however, be concerned with the hardness of the water you are using for tea. Water that is very high in minerals, calcium and lime will really kill the aromas and flavors of tea.
