Surprised by sample from Jing tea shop

by mageta » Jul 12th, '15, 11:49

I was surprised this week when I found a small envelope in the back of the cupboard from Jing tea shop. It was a little, 7 gram sampler, it must have come with a larger order. The label read Ying De Hong, I looked it up, saw it was a black tea and got excited. I've only ordered black tea once, and it was a long time ago.

I threw half of the pack in my gaiwan and brewed it up, and it was great. The first infusions had notes of cocoa, cinnamon, other dark, sweet spices, there was a bit of sourness in there as well, which came out more in the later infusions. It's day two now and I'm still drinking that same pot, and it's still really good.

I'm thinking I'd really like to start drinking more black tea. What are some other black teas that have a similar profile? What kind of vessel do you guys use for black tea? Gaiwan, Yixing, something else?

You might start with some of Yunnan Sourcing Yunnan and Fujian blacks.....

Da Hu Sai
Wu Liang
Black Gold
Wild Arbor Feng Qing

Jin Jun Mei
Zheng Shan Xiao Zhong

These are all good imo but there are others with a slightly different flavor profile that are good as well. Personally I use a gaiwan.

The Ying De Hong from JTS is a very special red, not all are of that quality. It's actually my favourite by far.

About the Jin Junmei from YS, which one are you referring to because they offer two types.

Cheers.

This is really true the Ying De Hong is still one of the best red teas I've ever had and it's been several years since I discovered it. :)

Though If you want something different which reaches the same level of quality I suggest browsing through the red teas on taiwan tea crafts. I made a big oolong order with them at the begining of the summer and they added in a few black tea samples which have all been top notch

What is the Black dragon pearl tea from Adagio? I had that many years ago and remember liking it.

Cheers!

Agree. I tried most of TTC's red teas. The two above are extremely good!

From my Oolong order the ones I'm enjoying the most are the Dong Ding Oolong Tea, Lot 367 and Baguashan Gui Fei Oolong Tea, Lot 373 :)
