Has anyone tried Tea of Japan?

I'm looking for a good but not too expensive matcha (preferably the usucha or koicha type grade) and a houjicha from a vendor I've not tried before. Also looking at a sencha too, just to get a good idea of said vendor's tea.

If I don't buy matabay, I was looking at maiko instead... What do you guys think?

In part, I'm still tempted to buy from here because it *could* be really good but maiko have a proven record...
If I'm not mistaken, both Maiko and Matabay are both Uji based. Maiko has very good gyokuro, btw. I haven't tried their matcha. Matabay sounds like a specialist with matcha. I would definitely give them a go.

As I've not heard back from maiko and I can't log in, I'm going to go ahead with this order from Matabay.

Will let you know what I think and I'll try maiko next time.

HA!, that what I get for posting with insomnia (non tea related). Thanks Tead Off. One more company to investigate should I look more into Japanese tea and get off the expensive & elusive puer and oolong chases.

Chip I've posted in the other thread, you are welcome to delete this since it does not contribute to the thread.

Gregg,
I believe you posted this in the wrong thread. You want Thes du Japon, not Tea of Japon, 2 different companies. An easy mistake to be made. Maybe Chip can move this to the appropriate thread.

As a quick note. I found the matcha to be quite light and refreshing, as usucha. It also had a rather sweet flavour and a very smooth mouthfeel.

Considering this was $30 - $40 and their top matcha is $95, I reckon they're selling some good tea!

I'll post pics and all in the matcha wan thread, later.

Put in an order for some tea. 11 days later and 6 emails(unanswered by them) asking them for a tracking #, it was sent to the USA address I am registered under. I specifically requested that they not ship it there but ship it to my Bangkok address in an email. My wife just happens to be in the States and will bring it back with her soon so all is okay. But, not one response from this vendor. I'm hoping their tea will take the bad taste out of my mouth that I got from them.

Just finished a bowl of Matabay's Usucha Premium. Since they bill themselves as having the 'best', I was ready for something I would deem 'special'. I'm not sure I can say that yet, having had only one bowl. There was an up front flavor and a lingering finish. I felt it was a bit powdery in the throat but nothing to really complain about. I wanted to see how this match compared to my current favorite Hosuien. Hosuien is less money, more aroma and flavor that sits very well on my palette. But, is it 'special'? I'm not sure I could say that. Anyone else care to comment on their experience?
