Kyusu Clay?

by Polyhymnia » Aug 17th, '15, 19:23

I have a kyusu I was told was bought from Dens tea. This particular one doesn't seem to be for sale on their website anymore. I was curious if anyone had an idea of what material/clay is generally used for kyusu. I've been experimenting with it with everything from wuyi Oolong's and TGY to semi aged sheng pu. It hasn't seen too much Japanese tea as I am not too fond of it, buy wanted some feedback on what other teas might be good in a kyusu.

I want to dedicate it to one type of tea eventually. The wuyi I've had in it isn't anything great and I've found tastes better brewed in other vessels. The TGY I tried in it was just bought from Wegmans but had a very sweet aftertaste that lingered

Is the kyusu unglazed / porous on the inside? All of the kyusu I've seen offered by Den's are glazed, so it isn't necessary to dedicate them to a single type of tea. That is, assuming you clean it properly between sessions / different tea types.
