Re: Gauging interest in group purchase from "Mountain Tea"
is their dark roast TGY really that good?
Re: Gauging interest in group purchase from "Mountain Tea"
I bought it recently. I've only had a chance to try it once, In my opinion it's a pretty bland tea and I wasn't able to get much flavor from it. Granted, I may not be using the right brewing parameters, especially because I usually brew aged oolong in a duanni pot. I'll stick some in a gaiwan and do a stress test and get back to you in a few.I'm curious, did you ever tried that Green Heart Oolong? What's your experience with that tea?
I also got this one and I really like it, I was torn between it and the Imperial Pearl. I prefer traditional TGY and this one makes me very happy. Be sure to let it acclimate before you try it though. It stores well.is their dark roast TGY really that good?
Re: Gauging interest in group purchase from "Mountain Tea"
Yeah, I'll stand by what I said. I'm brewing 6 g in a 100ml gaiwan at boiling right now. I've been letting it sit in a tin for a month, and it has had some improvement. But this is one of those teas that will please people who are after aroma but leaves nothing for people like me, who want a balanced taste and thick body. It smells awesome, but the liquor just seems kind of... thin. Of course, if you buy a lot you have more opportunities to experiment with brewing styles or re-roasting.I'm curious, did you ever tried that Green Heart Oolong? What's your experience with that tea?

Update:
I talked with MountainTea, and they confirm they can do multiple addresses.
They want to see a list of the items and where to ship it to.
I'm keeping the order small this time, and will include following people in the list.
Tea Fiend: 1lb imperial Pearl $39.00 + shipping to the east coast
Muadeeb: 1lb dark roast TKY $26.00 + shipping within California
Tewa: 1lb dark roast TKY $26.00 + shipping
mganz42: 1lb imperial Pearl $39.00 + shipping
ethan: 1lb imperial Pearl $39.00 + shipping to the east coast
Please private message me with your name and shipping address (also an email address for billing). I hope to have this by 8pm EST Thursday May 26 15. Their webpage will easily accommodate 4 orders, but we need the list because of 5 different address.
Please PM me and confirm. I'll place the order by Friday, or as soon as I have everyone's info.
Cheers

I tried the Dark Roast TKY from the last group buy and thought it was great. I bought 21 oz last month at retail prices, but for less than $2/oz at the wholesale prices, it's a steal. I haven't tried the green heart.
PM sent with my details.

Thanks for those who ordered!
I got a message from MountainTea, and they are preparing shipment. Yes, they are shipping each order to your address. I will get a receipt soon, and I will forward to you individually in PM when I get it.

Re: Gauging interest in group purchase from "Mountain Tea"
PM's have expressed thanks but doing it again here. It's great to have a significant amount of a favorite that I otherwise could not afford to stock.
A note to those who bought: Mountain Tea's owners seem to favor high temperature for steeping. I've been happier w/ significantly lower temperature than what MT suggests.
Here's hoping TeaChat can have a few group-buy opportunities each year!

Re: Gauging interest in group purchase from "Mountain Tea"
Thank you all!
if there is interest in another group buy i'd like to participate.... I kind of regretting not getting some Amber oolong or some Mid-fire Tieguanyin...
Yes, the imperial pearl does benefit from some higher temp water. The lower temp water doesn't bring the pungent sweetness quickly enough, it seems for me.

Re: Gauging interest in group purchase from "Mountain Tea"
I'd be in for some amber, dark roast TGY, and DYL if anyone is interested sometime soon.
Re: Gauging interest in group purchase from "Mountain Tea"
How did you guys find the tea? Which ones were your favorites?
I'm in the Boston area if anyone wants to split orders/shipping.

Re: Gauging interest in group purchase from "Mountain Tea"
I'd like to share our experience from the previous order,
We contacted Mountain tea and placed a group order from 5 people. We ask them to ship to individual addresses, and they also allowed us to pay individually via paypal. Total price was ~$250. Each of our order was around 1 pound of tea, with 5-15$ of shipping. Shipping 1lbs of tea to the east coast was $12. Shipping 1.5lbs of tea to PA was around ~$15.
They were flexible because we had a largish order, the order was relatively simple 1 lbs, and they were nice. They were kind enough to give one of our members a 0.5 lbs option.
I checked their website again... If I was to order around 3 lbs of merchandise, at around $100 worth, the shipping to my area of the east coast would still be $16.

Re: Gauging interest in group purchase from "Mountain Tea"
i'm not low on tea right now, but if anyone missed out on this Mountain Tea group order round and wants to do another order sometime, i'd be interested in participating... those are pretty reasonable prices.
Re: Gauging interest in group purchase from "Mountain Tea"
Looks like I missed out on finding this page be a few weeks! I'll keep an eye on this thread now, but I'd be interested in joining in an order next time around.
