Fancy knockoffs?

by jayinhk » Feb 14th, '16, 22:40

This seller on the 'bay has what look like lao zhuni teapots, but I suspect they're just fancy knockoffs. Asked the seller about his purchases from 5000friends and he said he'd bought some daily users. Thoughts?

I've seen it. IMO replicas - I asked for more info and the pots lack the late Qing juncture line inside.

Price would seem too good to be true, too, especially if the seller knows what real antique ones are worth, and if he's a tea drinker he might! Also all of his three-legged pots are stained in the same manner.

Interesting...

I notice that he makes no claims on age, which is probably wise. If they are knock-offs, could this be a case where the knock-offs are still good? :D

Who's ponying up $275? I bought two pots (one zhuni, one duanni) and then got cold feet and asked for a refund. Both looked great, but the similarities in staining between pots worried me, and then steanze said they lacked the juncture line.

That's definitely well above my line for an unknown vendor and no hands-on....!

Yup, seems like too much of a gamble to me, but I thought I could force a return based on the antique claim, and the seller said I could return them if unsatisfied. $50 for EMS is highway robbery though.

His purchases from 5000Friend seems very suspicious! To my highly untrained eye, his pots sure look to be of the same genre.

Yup, the 5000Friends purchases were a definite red light. He or she just sold one lf those pots for around $350 and received positive feedback for it. His auctions are private, but I can see them on my phone for some reason!
