Yixing clay and health

by manolis1978 » Apr 17th, '16, 08:50

Hi to all of you
The last 1 year i discovered the beauty of the taste of the oolong tea. I have bougth percelain teapot and other accessories in order to brew my fovorite tea. For 6 month i read and search the internet about Yixing, quality of yixing pot, about clay, about oiginal clay and new clay that are used to make pots. I am sure that my palate its not able yet to identify the difference of brewing from pots made from many clays. I am wondering about the safety to use a pot that has made from a clay which quality is very low or insufficient. What is your opinion? I think that is safer to use a porcelain which is safe material, than to use a pot with low quality of clay. The clay may consist of dengerous material.

If you search these forums you can find a lot of info about this. Everything from speculation to people doing heavy metal tests of pots. I'm very far from an authority on this topic, but I don't think you can absolutely say that pots of low quality consist of dangerous material. It depends on how you define low quality and if the pot was adulterated with potentially harmful substances.

With low quality i mean the clay, from which very cheap pots are made. But i think harmfull material can me traced into the expencive pots also.
