This tieguanyin is from the same family as the Three Stamp Shuixian. This is very high roasted compared to modern tieguanyin, but not so high that all you taste is roast. I taste buttery toast and spearmint in this tea, along with a hint of popcorn from the roast. There is some light sourness in the later infusions, but not much (it's a pleasant sourness to me, and something I, and many old school tieguanyin drinkers, welcome in tieguanyin). This is old school, gongfu-grade tieguanyin that has been produced in this manner since before the Cultural Revolution. Old school drinkers all over Asia, including in China and Malaysia, are fond of this particular TGY because it is a taste of the past, and there really is nowhere else to get tea quite like this.
I drank some of this tea today; it's been a while. I have a jar of this tieguanyin aging away and I haven't touched it in almost a year since I put all of my jarred oolongs into my storage unit when I moved. I'll have to check on it to see how it's progressing! I am quite fond of this tea, and I think you'll like it too.

This tea is the same price as the shuixian: $18 for 50g, and shipping is $10 for 50g and $2 extra for every additional 50g.

Wow... that second steep.
What was the leaf amount, steep time, and temperature on that?
Personally, I love this kind of TGY. The sourness is something I am intimate with. Sounds/looks like a nice offering.
BTW, looking at your instagram, Suntory Whisky is the best!
Wish I had some with me now.
At least I can go have some high fire TGY to satisfy one itch.

I filled fhe pot almost halfway with dry leaf--pot is around 100ml. Infusion time was around 30 seconds, using water at full boil.
I'm drinking the fifth infusion now.
Japanese whisky is great, but Taiwanese whisky may be even better!

And replied! I really feel this TGY is excellent tea, and just as good as the Three Stamp SX. Perhaps I haven't done it justice with my description, but this is really good high roast TGY.
Re: Hong Kong-Roasted High Fire Tieguanyin
I agree with your notes on this one, Jay. Its a lovely, smooth tea that will last 4-5 great infusions. Thank you for bringing such a treat to Stockholm

Thanks Haddemall! Glad you like it. I have around 200g on hand now if anyone would like to try it. Since you posted about it, I think I'll drink some TGY today!Haddemall wrote:I agree with your notes on this one, Jay. Its a lovely, smooth tea that will last 4-5 great infusions. Tried Tea Hongs aged, roasted TGY. Liked yours a lot more. Does your shop sell different grades......
Re: Hong Kong-Roasted High Fire Tieguanyin
Yes, there are lower grades, but I only ever buy the highest grade! They also offer greener TGY (pre-roast).Haddemall wrote:Tried Tea Hongs aged, roasted TGY. Liked yours a lot more. Does your shop sell different grades......
