Long storage - Yixing pot ID questions

by theredbaron » Jan 3rd, '17, 10:55

After my recent move back to Europe after almost 30 years in Asia i found some Yixing pots i stored a looong time ago, and which i have almost forgotten about. I bought most of them around 92, just after i began drinking Chinese tea. Here is one of those pots i found, which i wonder if any of the experts here would have any ideas about. I am sure i bought it in '92 in a shop here in Europe, it's 150 cc, and right now i use it to grandfather Liu Bao.

Wow, high praise, and thank you :)

I assumed that it's not bad. The tea in it brews very well, and lasts many infusions, and the pot quickly develops a sheen after only a few brews.
Any idea on possible age?

After googling the Chinese characters, i found what appears to be a similar pot, unfortunately then google translate doesn't work that well anymore:

:D.. its is green label period ('78+++) which put it into the end 70s to early 80s.

the clay is typical of that of that period, and this type of clay develops a sheen/patina very very quickly.

And again - thank you very much. That feels like winning the lottery :)

I wonder what other treasures i have buried in my storage, i doubt though any pot of that vintage, but i do remember that i bought a few pots in a Chinese state expo in '92 in Amsterdam, and possibly some when i backpacked around China in '93.

At that time i made my first steps into Chinese tea. This particular pot i remember i bought in an Asia antiques shop in Munich, in summer '92. I had no idea yet about pots or Chinese tea, but was very keen to learn as i not long before learned about Chinese tea in Singapore, and loved the at the time only available book on Chinese tea art in English - Blofeld's 'The Chinese Art of Tea'

That room is right now free body building for me, lifting heavy boxes out of the way to get to some stuff we need. A bit later i will post one or the other pot i found there, and which were stored where i could get to without too much difficulties. I think though that this one was the only real treasure.

Here one more pot. I think it is not of that great vintage as the previous pot. I bought it '96 or '97 in Bangkok. At least that is what my wife says, as i have no recollection of having bought the pot, and was quite surprised when i found it. She also said that the seller, a tea shop in Bangkok, said that on her trip to Yixing she could only get a few of those particular pots as this was just a few remaining pieces from an older stock. The pot is about 60 to 65 cc.

Thanks a lot :)

That was my assumption. The pot is quite well made, the lid fit is very well done. I assume that it may not be Factory 1, am i right in this?
