Pu-erh and Oral Hygiene
I was drinking pu-erh and noticed my teeth were stained a red brown color. I also noticed a dirty, unhealthy feeling in my gums. Does any one know if pu-erh is bad for oral hygiene?
Re: Pu-erh and Oral Hygiene
Tea in general will stain your teeth. Green tea is especially bad, and so it follows that young sheng would be bad. Ripe pu'er will stain teaware very quickly, so I think it will also stain teeth pretty badly.
Drinking water after tea sessions and avoiding mouth breathing (if possible) will help. Going to the dentist regularly will also help. If the staining bothers you, you can try a mild abrasive like baking powder paste on a toothbrush, and / or a bit of hydrogen peroxide, though you'd probably want to avoid either of these every day, maybe every 2-3 days.

I'm not a health professional, but still, I'd be careful not to confuse tea stains with hygiene problems. As far as I know, tea does not at all have negative consequences for oral health, its just a coloring of the teeth.
