Weird shiny part at bottom of tea pot
Hi guys! New here. Got a yixing zisha tea pot recently for quite cheap, around 20+ usd. Supposedly hong ni made in the early 90s. However, looking inside the tea pot I found the rim of the base to have some areas that are more shiny and smooth than the rest. Does anyone know what this is or if it is harmful? Thanks!
Re: Weird shiny part at bottom of tea pot
I can test the pot if you like. Do you want my address details?
Note: there is no guarantee that the pot will be returned.

Re: Weird shiny part at bottom of tea pot
hahahahaha! I shan't take the risk then. Do you think it's any concern though? It doesn't feel like it'll come off easily, and doesn't feel like a thick layer on top of the pot.bagua7 wrote: I can test the pot if you like. Do you want my address details?

Re: Weird shiny part at bottom of tea pot
That's pretty odd. The only thing I can compare it to is liquid zhu ni clay that was used to coat the outside of Nei Zi Wai Hong pots, and would sometimes run on the inside.

With your pot being hong ni, I can't see why they would use liquid clay, unless perhaps the pot had a tiny hole after firing?

Ah! So that's liquid clay? Thanks for shedding light on it! Patching up a hole sounds highly probable.

Just the best theory I can manage, though no idea if I'm correct.
