Reliable online tea merchants in Europe?

One of the intentionally aged teas, Pu-Erh has a loyal following.

Reliable online tea merchants in Europe?

by KalleW » Oct 28th, '18, 20:05

Hello

I live in Sweden and want to explore tea and Pu-Erh in particular. I found this store http://tehem.se but its hard to asses how reliable they are.

Can someone recommend a reliable eu online store that sells proper Pu-erh. Preferably not overpriced. Preferable with a 10+ alternatives on green and black Pu-erh. Idk how suspicious you should be about tea stores but to be frank - china is the #1 kingdom of fake in the world so I have no reason to assume anything is real so to speak.

Sorry for this predjudice but cant take chances on stuff eat/drink.

Cheers /Kalle

Grren tea Guru, What Cha and PuerhSK are good shops. Try also Terre De Ciel. There are some other good ones that ship internationally as well.

No worries. I know a bunch of sellers and where to find things at good prices. Glad to help and ask away if you need any more help.

An acquaintance / friend sells really good commission-produced pu'er from an online sales site out of Switzerland:

https://www.teamania.ch/

It doesn't meet the criteria of having a lot of options across both sheng and shou (I just checked; he carries 20+ sheng versions and one shou) but the teas are good quality and a really good value if they're what you are looking for. For factory sheng, and aged versions of that and shou, Yunnan Sourcing would be the obvious recommendation. YS makes in-house brands too now, so not just that through them, but that's the standard go-to for that range of pu'er.

I've been reviewing a number of sheng and shou from a Russian vendor this year, from Moychay ( https://moychay.com/). It's hard to get a read on specific in-house produced teas from any vendor (so that applies to Tea Mania too) because you can find reviews and discussion about standard factory teas but not custom versions. Most vendor descriptions don't even try to be so clear and detailed to give you a great feel for what they're selling because reviewing style and subjective impression varies, so there's no way for one person to give a complete description that would be accepted as completely accurate by everyone.

Blogs sort of don't fill that gap because bloggers vary a lot in how they describe teas too, and some are more reliable than others, related to having appropriate background and good judgement. Steepster reviews can be good because if there are a half dozen for a product you can see where the consensus is headed, offsetting some of those other concerns. You could scan my blog to see how it looks but the only way to get a feel for how descriptions would match your own impression is by comparing a take on a tea you already know.
