I love a good mate to give me energy. I’ve never thought mate has the best flavor, but this one is definitely a miss for me. I didn’t get any of the nutty taste. Just a weird punch of cinnamon spice, which doesn’t seem to belong.

I read that adding milk to mate is controversial, but I'm pretty much a black tea drinker and preferred this tea with a splash of it to offset the earthier taste of the mate and cocoa nibs. Then it was a perfect early afternoon tea, gentler than my morning brews.

I love mate in general and so was pretty excited to try this one as the combo of ingredients sounded interesting. The mate is toasted so it gives a roasty kinda vibe to the brew. I get super subtle hints of cinnamon and the cocoa nibs. This is a pretty mellow cuppa with the roasty notes really coming through the most. I like this one with a splash of oat milk as the milk helps to bring the cocoa notes out more. I also only brew this one at 3 minutes and if I brew it longer the mate becomes too strong in this.
