I hear for general Asian sourced teas Tao of Tea is good... but looking at their online pu-erh selection I am not pleased:

Shortly after posting I found Red Robe Tea House & Cafe in Portland's , ahem, "Chinatown".
Got a cup of the 2009 Dayi Menghai V93 Pu’erh to go .
Just what the doctor ordered !

Naw man, what you want is:2007 Dayi Menghai An Xiang Pu’erh

the 2009 V93 isn't really as good as preceding V93. It's the worst of the teas on offer from there!

I highly recommend going to Fly Awake Tea Garden. I've been there a few times with the Portland tea meetup and all were a treat. It's literally a backyard turned into a teahouse.

I tried one young "mao cha" (what Kevin called it; I didn't care to ask for more info) that was nicely energetic when I was there a little while ago. I have a sample of young raw I got from there a few weeks ago that is supposed to be brutal; I'll make sure to mention it in the POTD when I get to it.

Just went there today, I recommend Fly Awake Tea Garden for an interesting experience and good tea. The back-garden ambiance was definitely a large part of the appeal.

The guy serving the teas couldn't tell me a whole lot demographic info (like what sub-region the tea came from), so my educational ich wasn't as satisfied as I would've liked.

He was able to serve me tea based off what type of tea drinking experience I was craving, like "I want something 'grounding' or an 'opening' tea".

Seemed like he had a lot of stuff from Yunnan Sourcing and Mandala Tea, so if you already have a lot of that tea at home maybe consider going more for the mindful/chill ambiance...
