Footless raku teabowl

by alenehan » Jun 9th, '20, 09:57

Hi all I am new to this forum but looking forward to sharing some of the more interesting pieces from my teaware collection.

Firstly I am hoping to get some thoughts on a more unusual piece. Raku of some age (judging by the patina) that I originally thought may be an ash bowl (haiki) but it is too small at 4.5" across at the top. I have since been told that it is an unusual rounded bottom form of chawan. Has anyone seen a similar example or might want to speculate on an approximate age?

Interestingly, despite its look it is actually very stable when it sits.

Thanks all!
