OK...I have a deal to make with all you bloggers. I hope this will help you...and you can help TeaDay out as well. Please feel free to post your comments here, ideas, etc. Of course you can always PM me as well. I hope this creates some excitement, some buzz, for everyone.
This is an experiment that I am not announcing outside of ITD at this time. If it creates problems, the Mod Squad will convene and flex its muskels.
Here is the deal, in order to get bloggers more enthusiastically involved in TeaDay, we will experimentally allow each blogger one embedded link to a specific tea or topic in your blog. Your post must be a "quality post" and only one per TeaDay please.
So, no mentioning your blog by name, unless someone asks for it. (but you can mention that you just reviewed this tea on your blog, for instance) It must fit in with the spirit of TeaDay or the day's topic of discussion. And your post must make sense in the grand scheme of things.
So, don't look like a spammer just for the sake of a link. That will not be permitted.
Similarly, the Wiki may be linked in a similar fashion...just please don't over do this one. If everyone links to the wiki, it will be overkill. No more than several embedded links to the wiki per day please...so everyone will have to pay attention.
Again, I want this to mutually benefit all, you get links, TeaDay gets the creme of the crop to share their vast TeaKnowledge.

As far as blog posts go, they must be relevant to the tea we claim to be drinking, right?
Meaning, I wouldn't post about drinking sencha on TeaDay and link to a puerh post on my blog.
I think this *could* be a good idea, as long as we keep it in check. I do like the wiki idea though, I can't help but feel that not enough people get to utilize that resource.

Yes...I do not want to hear complaints about nonrelavent links. That is simply spam! That is against the spirit of TeaDay and this offer. Pleasse do not place the mods in a position where they have to call anyone on the carpet. I truly do not anticipate that happening as long as we have this discussion here.
I agree...the Wiki exposure I hope helps. I wish I could have been more involved in the Wiki project, but the forums have taken a huge chunk of my time. This will be my contribution.
Thanx for your input, Brent.

No problem. I think this has the potential to be really helpful for newbies who may not understand all the words we use in teaday.

The difference, I think, is that it was generally frowned upon to self-promote unless it was in response to a specific question, say, someone asking about how good a particular tea was.padre wrote:I'm puzzled. Is this some doubleplus good good form of linking? Because I've assumed we could already embed such links.

It is not permitted to speak of the wiki in past tense. I can only assume that by doing you are implying that in the future you will be helping out?Chip wrote:I wish I could have been more involved in the Wiki project, but the forums have taken a huge chunk of my time.

Brent has pretty much nailed it. Self promoting links are frowned upon in general. Starting a topic to draw attention to your blog is generally not a good idea. Trust me, if I had an issue with any offences, I would contact you via PM to discuss the issue directly. If there was wide spread abuse by ITD members, I would likely address it under ITD.scruffmcgruff wrote:The difference, I think, is that it was generally frowned upon to self-promote unless it was in response to a specific question, say, someone asking about how good a particular tea was.padre wrote:I'm puzzled. The Mods generally look the other way, mainly because the posts were informative and served a TeaChat purpose. And you guys are generally not newbies. They were not like typical spam posts that are simply offensive. Several times, it was harder to look away than others though.

We also consider the number of links in relation to number of posts. Since you happened to mention it here, Padre, you might be higher than some others...but the quality of your posts has outweighed any concerns I have.
Basically, I am kinda opening up the Pandura's Box and saying...go for it here. I am doing this to give you guys an outlet for promoting your blogs and the Wiki...in the top viewed, top posted forum on TC, which is TeaDay. But I am also doing it to give you incentive to get more involved in TD. I am looking for quality posts...not a one liner so you can put up your link for the day. After all, your reputation is at stake as well.
I am trying to think outside the box with TD...because it is quite different and due to the increased traffic it is producing. Trying new things. Trying to be more open to things like embedded links...yet still trying to prevent chaos.
Just please be aware, a little self control is greatly appreciated. Let's do this with class...promote your blogs, promote the Wiki, and talk more tea!!!

TeaDay has one statistical edge against my participating meaningfully in it.
The threads have a built-in kill time, and by the time I make it home from work, the thread has lived most of its life. (TeaChat browsing is considered not work appropriate at my office.)
So I'm more likely to vote in the poll at best, as it's quick business.
However, if I've got something meaningful to pitch in, I'll gladly do it.

Interestingly, TD often gets half its posts in the evening...well into the night.padre wrote:TeaDay has one statistical edge against my participating meaningfully in it.

But it is TeaDay, yes...generally one day. This keeps it active, different, moving forward...hopping.
Btw, I try to have the next day up sometime before the crack of dawn, USA time. Don't know if that helps you at all.
But I would welcome your participation...how could we facilitate that, Padre?
I am trying to keep the thread open into the next day for latecomers...
