Nicely rounded green oolong, gently sweet. I am on my second steep...3rd is already brewing.

...so, I am drinking the good stuff then???
It is very green...very low oxidation and no roasting as Tenuki says. Sometimes you have to ask the vendor serious questions due to limited info on their site.
How a vendor answers the questions can speak volumes.
I am really enjoying the breakthrough stories today. Russian Souls has the most TeaRomantism...along with foriegn intrigue...I could hear the train and feel the rattling as you told it. I was even picturing the gian samovar. Very visual tale!

I'm joining the party - broke out my stash of Hou De 2006 winter Da Yu Ling. woot! This is my new stash favorite now that the baozhong 2nd place is gone. slippery soupy aftertaste galore, who cares what it smells or tastes like. lol.

Better go easy on that, I hear someone bought out the rest of the stock.tenuki wrote:I'm joining the party - broke out my stash of Hou De 2006 winter Da Yu Ling. woot! Happy Birthday, Victoria!
Started drinking tea 2-3 years ago & like most of us, started w/the tea bags. We were carrying Metro teabags at our store & figured I better taste the stuff if I was gonna sell it. Vanilla black was the "a-ha" tea for me & is a staple in my tea stash. Been drinking loose leaf for about 6 mths now & still like my black teas (flavored & unflavored) but starting to experiment w/oolongs. The ones I've had so far still have a full flavor like black but have a smoother quality.
Today was a rare treat in that I had tea twice! Started the day w/free sample of coconut black (won't be ordering) & ended w/apple cinnamon black.

Like a few people here, I've been drinking tea my whole life. When I was little my mother's tea of choice was iced instant Constant Comment (which they quit making like 25 years ago) and in my family tea was always what you ordered out (rather then soda.) When I was about 10 someone gave mom some loose leaf teas in three small tins. I remember making the Earl Grey (just the leaves thrown in a cup and then poured through a strainer) and falling in love.
No today some basic assam iced and some orange iced and a bunch of errands.
Tomorrow I'm refusing to leave the house and drinking tea all day!
And happy (belated) birthday Victoria!

I honestly don't know *which* it was that first blew me away. But it had been several months since, and before, having iced tea from a local eatery. Trying loose tea seriously took me away from wanting to buy lipton again. Even the unremarkable stuff -- especially when I tried the Japanese green teas, and they were a world apart from the bagged "REAL JAPANESE!" green tea at the store.
Today, I'm having a 2006 Nan Jian Zhai Zi Po Mark raw puerh. It has the bite that the vendor 'warned' about, but the rest of this tea is a world of goodness.

I decided that my sick day would turn into having a constant mug of tea since it was one of the few ways to stop coughing. Then I realized that my sense of taste and smell was not functioning all the way. That made for a fun teaday. I went through way too much tea before deciding that greens and oolongs taste not too great while sick, and that rooibos, herbals, and blacks were tolerable. I am finishing the evening with some Valentines tea with a pinch of sugar. No soy milk in it makes for a rather astringent tea as it cools, but at least I can taste the chocolate covered strawberries.
Happy Slightly Belated Birthday, Victoria!
