How to Brew Loose Leaf Tea

Most people choose to drink their tea from tea bags because of their convenience. But if you really want to enjoy your tea even more, you should try brewing your loose tea leaves. It has more flavor and aroma as the tea leaves are more infused and it is also more environmentally friendly than tea bags.

Here’s what you need before you start brewing: Either a built-in tea infuser mug or jug (which I recommend) or a separate tea infuser, hot water and your favourite loose tea leaves.

First you put the tea leaves into the infuser and you can use basket-style strainers, metal or silicone infusers or disposable paper filters, so you can throw away after using. Steep the tea between 1-5 mins depending on the type of tea leaves and for certain teas like black, green, oolong, and pu-erh teas, you can steep over a few times for usage.

If you are making White, Green or Oolong Tea, the water temperature should be 85oC but for other teas just use 100oC. Making ice teas? Just put in more tea leaves to give it more concentration. Check the timing required to steep the tea and you can remove the infuser and put in the ice as desired. White, green and Oolong takes about 1-3 mins and for black, pu-erh and herbal tea takes longer - about 3-5 mins.
