Kyusu Help!!!

by evilive » Feb 17th, '08, 05:29

I am in the market for a kyusu, because I am sick of brewing my green teas in other things :P
I would much prefer a larger one (2-3 cups/17 ounces/500 ml), as I brew tea in larger quantities and i would MUCH prefer one with an easy to remove strainer so I can keep my tea at a perfectly brewed level. Price, of course, would come into it but I would have no problem paying extra for a quality piece of teaware that fulfils my needs.
Any and all help would be very much appreciated :D :D

I haven't seen so far kyusu with removable strainer.
You could use two kuysus: when you tea is brewed, you fill the second (preheated) kyusu with your tea.I prefer to use a smaller kyusu and have multiple infusions.

Try Tokoname Teapots http://www.tokoname.or.jp/teapot/

Specifically this page of their catalog: http://www.tokoname.or.jp/teapot/yubiki/yubiki36.jpg

You may be interested in the ones marked as 25 (to the left of the price) they are 450ml (15oz.) capacity. The capacity codes are explained on other pages of the catalog. http://www.tokoname.or.jp/teapot/yubiki

I bought a pot from them a while ago. Takeyoshi Kojima is a nice guy and easy to deal with.

I didn't see it on their website, but The Republic of Tea has one in their new catalogue. Its 12 oz and has a stainless steel infuser. 46 dollars with two matching cups.

But you should totally buy from the guy Buzz recommended.

Thank you very much everyone :D I am going to purchase from the site Buzz reccomended (thanks Buzz!). Page 37, second from the bottom, right hand side (number 765) is the one I'm going to get. but I had a though...wouldn't any Kyusu be able to have a removable strainer added to it? Unless there's something about the lid which would prohibit it (which I cannot see happening), I could theorically buy any kyusu I wanted and then just fit it with a strainer from my local tea shop... right :? ?
Anyway, I daresay I will be picking up that pot and maybe a few cups from this website. Thank you very very much Buzz
