That does sound like something I'd say, doesn't it?
Next time you go to your dentist, ask his/her advice. Mine came up with the "no drinking for 30 min after brushing" rule. He also advocated a whitening toothpaste, 3x day brushing, and an occasional brushing with regular baking soda.
My dentist is kind of a hippie. He's really big on exhausting home remedies and such before pulling out the big guns. In this case, the big guns are whitening treatments. He said if I was über-paranoid about staining (I'm not) that a professional annual whitening treatment would likely be the most effective. If, however, I was to say...splurge on Crest strips, they would be a once a month treatment AT THE MOST. Preferably once every 3 months, really. (He knows I have a younger brother who uses them weekly.

But that was the advice MY dentist gave ME...and any sort of medical advice really shouldn't be given second hand, so talk to your own.
