Jorhat Assam and Tiger Hill Darjeeling

by skywarrior » Mar 23rd, '08, 21:15

I was in Seattle at a SFF con and a friend brought me to a crumpet shop where they featured tea. They made me this wonderful Assam tea (loose) and I bought some of that for home and their Darjeeling.

Basically, the Assam is a second flush TGFOP marked as Jorhat, which I assume is the plantation. They also have a first flush Tiger Hill Darjeeling TGFOP which I haven't tried, but am planning to.

The Assam was simply awesome for an Assam. Very smooth and delightful. So, before I wax all poetic about this tea, has anyone heard of this particular tea? It's very, very good. It made up for all the lukewarm water and teabags I had at the hotel.

I actually have a tin of Tiger Hill Darjeeling. Great stuff! Although I got mine from Jaya teas. Check'em out

Oh Sky, I think I know that Crumpet Shop. Is it at the public market? If so, I'm head over heels for the shop and their tea! Did you have crumpets?

Didn't have their Assam, but they had a nice, full bodied 'house blend' I really enjoyed. Jorhat is an Estate. Pretty sure I've cupped samples from them in the past, but don't remember specifics.

Tiger Hill has a fairly consistent quality, though have mostly tried their second flushes.

Yes, it's the one near Pike's Place. And yes indeedy, I had a maple butter crumpet. I bought a package and have been eating about one every 12 hours since getting home.

The tea is wonderful.

Hehe - Maple butter - yum! I had brought back crumpets as well...clutching them and a bag of Wenshan Baozhong from Teacup on the plane back to New York. Breakfast the following morning was heaven!

Haven't tried Jorhat, but if you want another extraordinary Assam, this one is amazing:
