SunDay--->TeaDay, 3/30/08

I am hoping for a most delightful Sunday sipping pot after pot.

Welcome TeaChatters to TeaDay. Please stop by throughout the day whenever you can and share what is in your cup. Of course, make sure you check out what is in everyone else's cup as well...that is after all half the fun.

Today's TeaPoll and discussion topic is all about Tisanes...love them, hate them, drink them w/o ceasing? Where do you stand in the grand scheme of Tisanes.

I am looking forward to seeing everyone on TeaDay!

I have a strong, strong dislike of tissanes. Just not my thing at all.

I had a customer ask me for corn tea today. CORN. She didn't like my suggestion that she just eat some corn and be done with it.

I love chamomile and most blends that include it (foxtrot, etc). I use it to sleep, but I don't mind the flavor at all either.

Rooibos counts as a tisane too, and I drink that semi-daily.

Peppermint, spearmint, and lemongrass can go with anything!

I drink from time to time tisanes (thyme, mint), mostly offered after dinner by "I only have coffee or lipton teabags" friends.

This morning Keemun and jasmine pearls.

Almost never for me. I don't hate them, but I don't keep any in my tea cabinet, either.

I have tried some, and they can be very tasty. Not going to become a habit, though.

The fruit tisanes are nice, especially when you need a caffeine free alternative. They make nice iced tea. They definitely have a place in my tea cupboard.

Yunnan Gold morning! Have a great Sunday everyone!

I am not a fan of tisanes. I don't even like "flavored" teas because in my world, tea has a flavor. Call me weird.

Can I confess here that it really bugs me to hear people talk of their great passion for tea only to find out that their absolute favorite "tea" is Celestial Seasonings Red Zinger or Mystic Mint? Um...that's not tea.

**sigh**

I never really say anything but I think that confusing tisanes with tea gives tea a bad rap.

Yes, it's very annoying. I don't mind if people drink Celestial Seasonings TEA but when they say they like the fruit tea.. and that is the tea they are drinking, I just bite my tongue a little bit.

I mean, if you told a wine drinker, "I love wine! My favorite is sparkling grape juice" they would laugh at you for hours. How come other people can get away with similar stuff when it comes to tea?

I chose "not my cup of tea" but did so with reservations. I do drink yerba mate and some other items that seem to fall technically under the tisane heading, but the category is so huge, really.

I enjoy tisanes, especially in the evening when I don't want additional caffiene. Mint tisanes are outstanding iced, and anything with ginger in it is great for a sensitive stomach.

This morning, though, black is my cup of tea - Nilgiri Tiger Hill...

Yikes! I didn't mean to sound like a snob! I absolutely think that there is a place for tisanes and I will often get mint "tea" at my favorite Middle Eastern restaurant. For myself, I prefer tea to tisanes. (I hope I have redeemed myself!)

Too late, Beanbean! You have revealed yourself as a tea-snob just like the rest of us! :P

I'm drinking Den's guricha this morning... awaiting shincha...

You know it. I LOVE tisanes. I drink them for the wide variety of flavors, and for their folk magic associations. To a small extent, I acknowledge their role in complementary medicine, but if it doesn't taste good, I'm not drinking it no matter how magical or healthy it may be.

I also believe there is room in the tea community for all types of brewed leafy matter, whether it be tea or tisane. Biodiversity.

This morning I'm drinking an experimental blend of lemongrass, peppermint and Adagio Mango Melange. I don't quite have the proportions the way I want them. The lemongrass is a bit too dominant right now.
