Water Boiler & Warmer

by PolyhymnianMuse » Apr 20th, '08, 18:05

I'm looking for a water boiler that also keeps the water warm at a constant temperature. I really like the ones zojirushi has but they are pretty expensive. My main concern is that it reads the temperature of the water correctly. I've read a lot of reviews on amazon and other places of various models and correct temperature readout seems to be the main problem with them.

Could any of you point me in the direction of a reliable one :)

Zojirushi. PERIOD.

When people say they read the temperature of the water incorrectly, it's because they're dumb. They gauge the temperature after the water has been pushed through the tubes of the Zoji, and after the water has equilibrated with their cold cups.

I second Wesli. Zojirushi is the best and the people that complain about the temp inaccuracies aren't measuring in the heating tank (or whatever it calls). Even the manual says the first cup especially will have a lower temp.

They are expensive but I think totally worth it. I spent Saturday with my parents and had to actually wait for the water to boil and then cool. It was awful!

Depends on how you make your tea, I'd advocate an alcohol lamp with a tripod to hold up your kettle that keeps your water warm :)

I've found it to be by far the best way to make tea..... but of course, only applies if you do gongfu.

I, too, am looking for a good water boiler. After 4 years, my $20 Sunbeam Hot Shot has decided that it won't boil water. It does great for green teas as the only temperature that it likes is between 170 and 180* F.

How does the Zojirushi compare to Adagio's UtiliTea? It looks like a higher quality with better accuracy, but is it really worth the extra money?

I found a deal on newegg.com that has the 3 liter Zojirushi and a stainless steel thermos for $125.99 with free 3 day shipping. The other deal they have is $169.99 for the 5 liter Zojirushi plus an egg-scale timer thing also with free 3 day shipping.

3 Liter One
5 Liter One

I have the 4-liter Vacuum-Electric HYBRID, and it has changed my life. All I do now is fill her up before I hit the sack, turn on the timer, and wake up to perfectly hot water.

P.S. I have already written out my seppuku in case it ever breaks.

The UtiliTEA heats the water but then doesn't maintain that temp, right? The Zo heats and maintains the temp at either 208, 195 or 175 and you can set a 7 hour timer for either 208 or 195.

My Zojirushi has spoiled me. I have to use an electric kettle at work and I dislike not having the perfect temp water ready to just dispense.

I've got a Tiger rice cooker and it is lovely. I just love Japanese-made food-related electronics.
