Hojicha ?

by auggy » Apr 24th, '08, 12:32

I'm debating whether or not to try this tea... Can someone give me an idea what to expect taste-wise? Does it have much or any sweetness to it? The Adagio description makes me think of an oolong I tried that tasted like kissing someone that smoked sweet cigars.

Well houjicha tastes like... houjicha. Roasted flavor, less caffeine. Nice to have with dinner (especially fish or scallop). Good as ice tea also.

Not very expensive, so you should give it a try.

Hm for me, hojicha is like tasting well hojicha. I find myself referring to something as having a hojicha flavor than hojicha tasting like something. In my opinion it is a keystone tea when referring to the flavors. And yes it's pretty cheap stuff, so I would say give it a shot.

I wouldn't really say it's a very sweet flavor. It's a more woody, definitely roasted flavor.

Hmm, okay, becoming more intrigued now.... Is it overly smoky?

Not too smoky, at least for good ones.

I can't drink coffee without sugar. Will I need sugar for the hojicha most likely?

Hojicha is a must try. It is my breakfast tea since I think it goes well with most breakfast foods and it is very calming for a good start on the day. [/i]

Okay - not so smoky and like coffee but better... I'm gonna give it a shot!

Thanks all! Now I'm more excited to try it than nervous! :D

I find that it is lighter than coffee, and it's worth trying with sugar if you like it sweet. Try it both ways and figure out how you like it.

I'm a huge, huge fan of houjicha, especially after meals. It's my go to tea as an aperitif and any time I don't want to concentrate too hard on the tea I'm drinking. It's also very affordable. Espect a light roasted and caramel flavor, but no char or smoke. Easy drinking.
