Fixed lid, risked lid?

by Eastree » May 12th, '08, 18:18

I'm a bit paranoid, after a 1/4" hairline fracture in a faircup led, on its next exposure to hot water, to a sharp-edged top-of-a-faircup and a base.

I was thrown to the land of mourning, where there was weeping and gnashing of teeth.

Any way, today I received my latest puerh order. With it, I had also purchased two identical small gaiwans (~$2 each) for the sake of comparing teas side by side. One of the lids arrived broken.

So I glued the pieces together, quite successfully -- for the sake of function rather than so much appearance.

But my curiosity is whether I still run a high risk of losing the gaiwan along with the tea inside, when I pour in hot water.

Well I think I would pour one gaiwan then switch the lid over to the other one.

You don't want to get burned if the glue doesn't hold.

Thanks for that, Mark!

Per your question, I guess it depends on the glue, and whether or not it holds up to high temp and moisture. *shrugs* I don't think one lost gaiwan of tea is too big a deal, so I'd keep using it. That, or you can ask for a replacement lid from the vendor; most are pretty happy to help.

... Mark?

Anyhow, I'm not the most concerned with asking for a replacement *if* the glue holds, and I'd hate to break up another gaiwan. It also leaves me in the place of buying another $2 gaiwan from YSllc, paying the shipping (mostly because it's more than the actuak gaiwan's cost xD)

Bah, it's not the biggest deal. I was mostly wondering what others would say and/or do.

Do you refer to the 60's rock group, Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John?

If so, I think it was Matthew or Luke that wrote that line, not Mark.

Yes, you're right, it was those two; I just remembered Mark being the spookiest, so I figured it was him. Thanks for the correction!

Hold it over the sink with tongs and pour boiling water over it. Then you'll know for sure!

Actually, none of them wrote it since the line is only one possible translation from Koine. Is that King James?

Good news! I tipped the lid up-side down on my tea tray when I started brewing this afternoon, and filled it with boiling water. To my satisfaction, there was no reaction!

Good news! Congrats!
Now Bible study can be postponed.
Sal, you were right the first time; Matthew & Luke.

I didn't know you followed the 60's rock groups. That's a good bit before your time, I think.

Wanna come over after school and listen to some records?
